Other than my own mother herself, there may be no person who has prepared more meals for me than Papa Gino. Usually, though, I’m a Papa Pasta kind of guy (Papa Penne to be precise), so it was nice to have an excuse to stick with his pizza and even nicer to go with the Rustic. The Rustic is a floppily thin pizza cut into irregularly shaped slices (four triangle corners; the rest in rectangles, including several crustless middle slices) and dusted around the edges with parmesan cheese. It was introduced only within the last four years but has become a popular mainstay.
Making this particular Pizza Friday extra special is the fact that it is Pi Friday Eve, the appropriate celebration of which is, naturally, the eating of a pi(e). Though the Rustic Pizza is not and is not intended to be a perfect circle, the 3.14 slices I packed away allowed me to calculate perfectly the circumference of delicious.
Thanks, Papa. I’ll see you soon.
