The problem of universals is an ancient metaphysical issue regarding how general abstract qualities can be shared among so many individuals of a single group.  The point of contention, essentially, is whether or not these abstract forms exist in and of themselves or are simply ways to discuss the similarities among a group of individuals.  Plato offered as his solution the Theory of Forms, which asserts that Forms possess the highest the truest kind of reality and that the individuals that we sense in the material world are merely shadows imitating these forms.  In short, the Forms are that without which a material thing would not be considered that thing; they are the essence of things.

Papa John’s offers a product that meets all of the qualifications of being a pizza and no more.  If you will allow me, this is ‘pizzaness’ in its purest and least elaborate state.  If you ever crave a pizza without having a particular restaurant or brand in mind, Papa John’s will satisfy that craving without putting a dent in your memory or making you question what to expect from future pies.

For the record, this particular location (Somerville Avenue, Somerville) kept me on hold for eight minutes before taking my order, made me order an item in addition to my pizza so I would meet there $10 pre-tax minimum in order to qualify for delivery, then charged me $1.75 for delivery.  This cannot be recommended.
